Skippers Seafood 'n Chowder: Reviews & Ratings
I hadn't been to Skippers in close to 15 years and honestly wasn't even sure if they were still open. I haven't seen a commercial for them in forever and hadn't been since I moved to Washington, but let me tell you, the fish and chips are just as good as I remember. The chowder, on the other hand, seemed different from what I remember. It seemed thinner and tasted like it was missing something. It was more like a soup than a chowder. Other than the chowder which I used to love, it was great, and if my wife liked fish, we would probably go here more often.
Not terrible, not great. Food-wise, the chowder was surprisingly good. I'm not a huge seafood person so I went for the chicken strips, but they had a fishy taste. I'm sure it was just fried in the same oil, but fishy chicken did not sit well with me They do have table service and a condiment bar that you have access to. The building itself is worn, but not terrible. The bathrooms were also surprisingly clean!
I haven’t had food from Skippers in 30 years, what a blast from the past! From what I understand this is one of the few stores left in Washington. The food was as I remembered, freshly made and hot. The young lady that helped us was kind, courteous, and checked on us twice to see if everything was as we expected. Overall, I had a great experience here and hope the staff continues to be attentive and polite. I will be back for more fish and chips!
Good, but not great like I remembered. The pollock just isn't as good as the cod they used to serve. Also the pollock pieces are about half the size of cod from years back. The chowder, though tasted good, was not as full of potatoes and clams like it once was. Overall a bit of a let down compared to a decade or more ago.

Stepping into Skippers, you are enveloped by a warm maritime charm that draws you in. The aroma of fresh seafood fills the air, teasing your appetite before you even pick up the menu. The standout dish here, as many loyal customers will tell you, is undoubtedly the fish and chips. Guests, like J. Franklin, who returned after years, have praised it as a classic they fondly remember. Crisp and golden, the batter encasing the flaky fish provides a satisfying crunch that pairs beautifully with a squeeze of lemon.
While the fish and chips shine bright, the chowder has sparked mixed reviews. Some diners reminisce fondly about its once-rich consistency and robust flavor. Don Dillashaw noted a shift in its texture and heartiness, suggesting it has lost some of the charm it possessed years ago. T's experience with the chowder was more favorable, describing it as surprisingly good, yet others have echoed feelings of nostalgia paired with disappointment in its evolution.
